A message from Brandon Thompson, Candidate for Commander, OK Division

DISCLAIMER: This posting should not be taken as an endorsement by the staff here at the SCV OK blog, or as an official endorsement of the SCV. This article is an announcement in the candidate’s own words, of his candidacy. We wish Mr. Thompson the best in his run for Commander of the OK Division!

Fellow Compatriots,

I am writing to you to announce my candidacy for Oklahoma Division Commander of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. I am immensely grateful and humbled to have this opportunity to run for this position. I am looking forward to working with each and every one of you if elected as Oklahoma Division Commander and will continue to support our core conservative principles and the organization that embodies them.

I have not made this decision lightly. When I decided to run, I knew I first had to spend time in prayer with my family and in consultation with my mentors. I have since achieved peace of mind knowing my experience and ambitions for our organization adequately qualify me for this position. My experience in the Oklahoma Division Sons of Confederate Veterans include recruiting enough men to start a camp in Ringling, Oklahoma; becoming the Commander of the Ringling Camp; experience as a Confederate only re-enactor/Color Guard; and experience in searching for undocumented Confederate veterans at cemeteries.

These are the visions I feel we should have for our organization:

1.) AN ORGANIZATION GROWING AND MOVING FORWARD

Our organization should not be ashamed to be Southern but be proud of who we are, where we came from and what we stand for. We must stand up for our honorable ancestors at all costs. Our organization needs to focus on growth and vindicating the Cause set forth in our Charge.

2.) AN ORGANIZATION THAT IS EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT

By “effective and efficient” I mean we should use every aspect of material available for retaining and recruiting members; anything from camp events to social media and town events. Most importantly, our actions are our biggest recruiting tools we have. We must do more than “meet, eat, and retreat”.

3.) A 24/7 ORGANIZATION

By being a 24/7 organization we will always be prepared to recruit. This is not just the camp commander’s or adjutant’s job, but the group’s job as a whole. Always be prepared, and remember, “YOU are the Sons of Confederate Veterans”.

4.) A BIG ORGANIZATION

I have high hopes that if I become Division Commander we can strive to make our organization and member numbers grow like never before by educating folks about who we are. We must place an emphasis on growing and educating our organization if we want to be strong in the
future.

5.) A MOVE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

This is the most important vision. Our whole organization revolves around The Charge set before us by Lt. Gen. Stephen Dill Lee. That means our Confederate ancestors were right, and we need to keep the Sons of Confederate Veterans as right as we can. Extreme defense of our ancestors and the Confederacy depends on you.

I believe that I can help move our Oklahoma Division Sons of Confederate Veterans forward into the future with strong conservative values and help make this an organization we as a group can be and will be proud of.

Please feel free to contact me about any issue you would like to discuss.

Sincerely,
Brandon Thompson
